This 2 hour course Safeguarding & Safety in Education is designed for educational establishments such as schools, colleges or nurseries who already provide the basic elements of health & safety training for their workers. This course includes some of the more specialised subjects such as Safeguarding Children, DBS Checks, School Emergency Plan, School Trips/Events/Activities, as well as SEN Special Educational Needs, amongst others. Preventing Radicalisation (The Prevent Duty) is included within this course.

Safeguarding & Safety in Education: Understand safeguarding children specifically within the education environment. Explore sources of stress, social exclusion and the effects of poverty, as well as the parental impacts on families, including domestic violence, parental problem drug use, mental illness in a Parent or Carer and the types of abuse and relevant legislation.
Safeguarding Children: Understand safeguarding children specifically within the education environment. Explore sources of stress, social exclusion and the effects of poverty, as well as the parental impacts on families, including domestic violence, parental problem drug use, mental illness in a Parent or Carer and the types of abuse and relevant legislation.
Preventing Radicalisation: Understand the warning signs of how vulnerable people may be exploited, radicalised, and potentially drawn into terrorism. Safeguarding personnel and management teams within an organisation should understand how the Prevent Duty focuses on the protection of vulnerable people rather than the reporting of potential terrorists.
Young Persons: Understand that young persons should be considered within risk assessments for events or activities within the workplace.
DBS Checks: Understand the different levels of Disclosure and Barring Service (known as DBS Checks, formally CRB checks) and their relevance to the education environment as well as Regulated Activity and Supervised activity including illustrative examples.
School Trips, Events & Activities: Learn to help children and students experience a wide range of events and activities safely, rather than discouraging such events on the basis of health and safety. Emphasising common sense approaches and procedures which are proportionate to the risks.
Risk Management: Learn about school specific risk management circumstances such as travel accommodation, medical vulnerabilities and adventure activities, emphasising proportionate risk management and common sense approaches.
Anti Social Behaviour: Understand how to deal with anti-social behaviour using de-escalation techniques and reporting.
School Emergency Plan: Understand school emergency management, how various types of emergency should be considered and how this can give the school community confidence when faced with a crisis.
Actions Following Incidents: Understand actions following incidents in the education environment, identify immediate actions for incidents occurring during and outside of school hours and how to handle media.
First Response: Learn about First Responders and the expectations of the first person at an accident, whilst they await a trained First Aid or Medical Professional and understand the recovery position.
Basic Life Support (adult, child, infant): Learn about Basic Life Support awareness for adults, children and infants with information about the different approaches for health professionals and non-health professionals alike including a familiarisation with AED (Automated External Defibrillator).
SEN Special Educational Needs: Learn about SEN (Special Educational Needs) and which considerations should be given around SEN students within the educational environment.
Epilepsy: Understand epilepsy and how to handle it on a day-to-day basis by raising awareness of seizures and how to recognise them.
Accidents & Incidents (RIDDOR): Understanding accidents, incidents, near miss events and the legal reporting requirements of RIDDOR (Reporting of Injuries, Diseases and Dangerous Occurrences Regulations).
Fire & Emergency: Understand the key principles of fire safety and how workplace fires can cause significant harm before reaching you. Learn about good housekeeping practices and other emergencies such as bomb threat and how they should be addressed in an emergency plan.
Safety Signs: Learn about the different types of safety signs, such as; mandatory, prohibition, warning, safe condition and how to recognise them.
Slips Trips & Falls: Understand the importance of reporting potential causes of slips, trips and falls.
Harassment & Bullying: Understand the identification, reporting and effective management of harassment and bullying instances at work.
Drugs, Alcohol & Substance Misuse: Understand why colleagues under the influence of alcohol or drugs are not permitted to undertake work on the employers' behalf and learn about support options.
Needlesticks: Understand infection control, handling, disposal and actions to be taken in the discovery of needlesticks or syringes used for drugs.
Work/Life Balance & Stress: Learn about negative stress, positive stress and pressure along with it's various sources and how they can be work or home related. Understand how to recognise the symptoms and which actions can achieve a healthy work/life balance.
  Safeguarding & Safety in Education
The Safeguarding Children module is a comprehensive coverage of the subject, rather than just a simple introduction to Safeguarding. It includes topics such as The Impact of Maltreatment, Types of Abuse, Physical Abuse, Emotional Abuse, Sexual Abuse, Sexual Exploitation and Neglect, in addition to exploring Sources of Stress, Social Exclusion and the effects of Poverty.

Provided by SafetyMark Training. Other modules within the course are designed to provide a greater understanding of health and safety issues which are not usually addressed in basic health and safety training. The course discusses issues such as risk assessment of school trips and activities, SEN Special Education Needs considerations, Anti Social behaviour, Drug, Alcohol and Substance misuse and Sharps issues such as management of needleticks/syringes.
